Finding your MAC address
The Ethernet Hardware Address is also referred to as:
- MAC Address (Media Access Control)
- Physical Address
- Hardware Address
- NIC Address
It consists of six sets of two-digit hexadecimal numbers. These are usually separated by dashes or colons, but may be separated by spaces.
For example:
00:0C:12:AB:4F:78
There is a separate MAC address for your wired and wireless adapters. Make sure you are recording the appropriate address.
Here's how to find it:
Windows 10/11
1. Search for Command Prompt in the search bar.
2. At the prompt type, ipconfig /all and hit Enter.
3. You'll see a number in the Physical Address field in the format of 00-00-00-00-00-00
MacOS
1. In System Preferences, select Network.
2. In the pulldown menu, select your Airport or Ethernet adapter, depending on whether you want the wireless or wired address.
3. Click on Advanced.
4. The MAC address will be under the Hardware tab.
Linux
1. Use the command ip link in the terminal
iOS (Wireless)
Go to Settings --> General --> About
Android Phone (Wireless)
1. Go to Settings-> About Phone
2. Go to Status Information
3. It will be under Wi-Fi MAC address
